Why Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is so great for kids!

Today’s kids seem perfectly content to lounge on the couch watching television and playing games. What if your child could learn to be a hero in real life? Martial arts training at World Jiu-Jitsu Academy will help your child build physical fitness, learn self-respect, develop self-esteem and grow in character, all while learning the valuable life skill of self-defense. Your child will grow physically, emotionally and mentally with every lesson, making our BJJ program one of the best things you will ever do for your child.

While much is known about Karate for kids, the gentle art of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is quickly gaining popularity. Why? Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is a ground art, as opposed to standing arts like Karate and Judo. One of the things that make BJJ so great for kids is that BJJ is a low impact martial art. Studies have shown that popular sports like gymnastics, football, and cheerleading can wreak havoc on developing bones and muscular systems.

What Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Can Do for Your Child

Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, while being a contact sport, is much less likely to cause injury to your child. Secondly, the very strategic nature of the sport helps children with mind/body awareness. Children learn to focus, be adaptable, think quickly and plan. In addition to the skills learned as individual practitioners, they also learn the importance of teamwork. Our kids train hard in class but cheer each other on as one in competition.

One of the most rewarding aspects of our program is the development of self-discipline. Our young martial artists are responsible for a code of conduct on and off the mats that focuses on respect for others and themselves. We have a lot of fun and at the same time, we help our students understand what an awesome responsibility they have to be good citizens in the world.

A Tough Subject

Bullying has become an epidemic in this country. At World Jiu-Jitsu Academy, your child will never have to worry about being bullied. We have partnered with Forsyth County School’s Anti-Bullying campaign, in an effort to educate parents, kids who are being bullied and those doing the bullying. We talk about what happens when we’re flooded with emotions and how to cope with feelings of frustration. We give children the coping skills they need to confidently handle life’s challenges, the greatest of which is knowing oneself. We want that confidence to radiate from within. While self-defense skills are a major part of our martial arts classes, the goal is to provide kids with the self-esteem and self-respect to never have to use them except in case of an emergency.

Because BJJ is a ground art, where most fights end up, the skills your child learns will be more applicable in real-life situations than Karate or Judo. No one wants to think about their child in a physical confrontation, but if it does happen, every parent wants their child to be prepared. That preparedness is an integral part of what we do.

Age Groups

Children as young as 4 years old are welcome at World Jiu-Jitsu Academy. We have designed our classes so that every child can participate, regardless of skill or age. Each child is given plenty of personal instruction and attention. We want your child to succeed! We will work with you to find the class that is perfect for your kids so that their training is age-appropriate and suited to their experience level.

We believe that every child can benefit from martial arts training. The skills, confidence, and self-respect learned here are irreplaceable. We teach healthy habits that can’t be learned too early. Your child will not just martial arts for self-defense; we also discuss healthier eating habits, hygiene, the importance of regular exercise, rest and hydration. The habits your child will learn at World Jiu-Jitsu Academy set the stage for a lifetime of healthy living.
